Why should I take part?

By taking part you’ll have an impact on the direction of criminal justice reform in New Zealand.

The Hāpaitia te Oranga Tangata – Safe and Effective Justice initiative was set up by the Minister of Justice in July 2018 to transform the criminal justice system and create a safer Aotearoa New Zealand. You can find out more about our work at www.safeandeffectivejustice.govt.nz

How will you use the information?

The data will be used to inform the Hāpaitia te Oranga Tangata – Safe and Effective Justice initiative. Aggregate results will also be shared with the Minister of Justice and the wider public.

Who will have access to the information I submit?

Data can only be accessed by approved administrators in the Hāpaitia te Oranga Tangata team and the Engagement HQ Account Manager. Data will be provided to Ministry of Justice research and evaluation staff for analysis.

Your privacy is very important to us and any information you provide will only be used for our research purposes.

How long will you store the data for?

Data will only be retained until the Hāpaitia te Oranga Tangata - Safe and Effective Justice initiative concludes – projected by the end of 2020.

Why are you asking for demographic information (e.g. age, gender, ethnicity)?

We want to reach a broad cross-section of New Zealanders. By providing basic demographic information you’ll help us understand whether our results are representative of the general population. We’ll also be able to build a better picture of New Zealand views and identify trends within broad demographic groups.

Will the results be made publicly available?

Yes, aggregate results will be shared publicly once we’ve analysed the data. Check back soon to find out what New Zealanders told us.
